Other League Information

Player Drafts:
Players are drafted in our AA through Prep divisions. Only siblings may be placed on the same team no exceptions. Players will be placed strictly according to their age as of April 30, 2026, and will not move up or down based on parent requests.

Player Agents:
Northwest will now have Player Agents whose role is to ensure that all divisions follow league and Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth rules. They are here to answer parent and coach questions throughout the season, because if we don’t know, we can’t improve!

Coaches Clinic:
All coaches must attend a Coaches Clinic at Northwest Baseball before the season begins. The clinic will be led by Coach Stan Thompson from Bakersfield High School, who brings over 25 years of coaching experience and has participated in multiple clinics nationwide.
This event will help both new and experienced coaches develop new skills to pass along to their players.

Volunteer Requirements:
Each team must provide 8 volunteers (age 13+) to work in the snack bar once during the season.

Team Sponsors:
Every team is required to secure one $400 team sponsor each season. Many local businesses love to support youth baseball, it often just takes a quick phone call!
If a team does not obtain a sponsor, they will lose 2 points in the standings at the end of the season. Sponsorship funds help keep our league running strong during the offseason.

Parking:
No parking is allowed inside the park — no exceptions. Only authorized board members and staff may park inside the gates.
Handicap parking is available outside the gates in designated spots only, to ensure the safety of children and families inside the facility. Safety always comes first at Northwest!

Coach Requirements:
All coaches must complete Sexual Abuse Prevention Training and a background check prior to coaching.

Why Youth Baseball Matters

Youth baseball plays a vital role in building stronger kids and stronger communities. Here’s why:

  • Physical Fitness: Promotes coordination, motor skills, and overall health.

  • Teamwork & Social Skills: Teaches communication, cooperation, and friendship.

  • Discipline & Work Ethic: Builds responsibility, focus, and a strong commitment to practice.

  • Character Development: Encourages sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect.

  • Healthy Competition: Helps players learn to handle wins and losses with grace.

  • Sense of Belonging: Creates lifelong bonds and community pride.

  • Mental Growth: Strengthens decision-making and problem-solving skills.

  • Lifelong Enjoyment: Builds a lifelong love for the game.

  • Time Management: Teaches kids to balance school, sports, and life.

  • Community Building: Brings families and neighbors together in support of our youth.

In summary, youth baseball goes beyond teaching the fundamentals of the sport, it contributes to the holistic development of children, shaping their physical, social, and emotional well-being while instilling values that will benefit them throughout their lives.
